  • A sports presenter and journalist at Chris Kirubi’s owned media house, Capital FM has been appointed to the Tokyo Olympics Steering Committee.

In a gazette notice, on February 12, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohamed named Alex Isaboke as part of the 24-member steering committee that will prepare the country for the international games slated for July 23, 2021, in Japan.

Among other members appointed alongside Isaboke include Former World record holder and President of National Olympics Committee of Kenya Paul Tergat, Humphrey Khayange, Athletes Representatives of NOCK, President of Paralympics Committee Agnes Olouch and other government officials associated with the sports docket.

According to the gazette notice, the team will also review work plans and other relevant proposals from the Central Management Committee, review the final list of athletes that are to participate in the games and oversee, approve the financial budget.

Colleagues and media counterparts lauded the appointment of the sports anchor, who also produced the Capital FM Saturday Sports show. Isaboke began his career in the media industry as an intern at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in May 2010.

He worked for four months before being fully absorbed in the company later that year. Working as a sports reporter and producer for two years at KBC, Isaboke soon jumped ship to Capital FM in September 2013.

The news comes as Radio Africa Group CEO Patrick Quarcoo was appointed to the Kenya End Malaria Council and Fund on Wednesday, February 17.

The council, unveiled by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, has been tasked with planning and coming up with strategies aimed at mitigating the outbreak of Malaria within national and regional levels in the country.

Recently, Capital FM unveiled four new presenters as part of its bid to revamp the station. In a campaign dubbed “Drive Inn Drive Out” the likes of Nadia Favre, Davina Leonard, June Gachui and Soni Adriance joined the space.

Capital FM Head of Radio Programs Danny Munyi revealed that the news presenters were tapped locally and abroad in order to bring back quality to the radio station as envisioned by the management.

The news presenters will replace the likes of NTV show host Amina Abdi Rabar and DJ Joe Mfalme who exited the famed brand.
