  • Capital FM has ended the Hits Not Homework show that had been airing every Monday to Thursday evening from 7 pm to 10 pm for the last two decades.

According to reliable sources at Capital FM, a new show is set to be launched to replace the popular evening show that shaped the direction of music and entertainment in Kenya.

The station will unveil The Hype show on Tuesday, December 1, at 7 pm which will be hosted by a new presenter who was picked after a rigorous recruitment exercise.

Capital FM will launch the show to give the evening program new life and new identity away from Hits Not Homework predecessor.

“Ideally we are targeting high net worth adults who share a lot in terms of political opinion, experience and lifestyle choices.

“It is also going to be largely a hip hop show that can be enjoyed by young adults and the older generation,†the source described.

Hit Not Homework’s target audience was the 18-24 demographic which tuned in to listen to the music, relatable conversations and the famous ‘Top 9 at 9’ chart.

However, in the new strategic direction, age will not be a major factor in the show’s target audience.

“We are targeting people who think differently, people who are adventurous, who enjoy having a good time. If you and I like the same things such as cars, music, live in the same area, share the same political views then we are in the same demographic despite our age,†the insider explained.

The Heat which used to air every Friday from 7pm to 10pm will also be replaced by The Big Bounce which will also have new hosts.

Hits Not Homework is one of the longest-running shows at Capital FM. A number of Kenya’s top media talent has been identified and nurtured through the program. At its peak, media personality Eve de Souza hosted the show alongside Soulo for 15 years.

Some of the presenters who have been involved with the show include Joey Muthengi, Amina Abdi, Anita Nderu, Neville and Miss Mandi.
