The fire is reported to have occurred at a section of the yard next to Makupa Police Station.

The two buses were completely burnt in the incident whose cause was yet to be established by the time of publishing.

There have been various incidences of Modern Coast buses catching fire spontaneously.

In November 2020, tens of passengers escaped death when the bus they were travelling in caught fire at Masimba township in Makueni county along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

The fire incident was only noticed when bystanders in the town saw fire from its underside as it drove by.

In 2018, a bus belonging to the same company caught fire on its way to Mtito Andei.

The bus is reported to have been empty at the time of the incident, therefore, no casualties were reported.
