It all started when Betty narrated about her daughter’s struggle with a rare medical condition, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), that landed her in ICU at the Nairobi Hospital for over a month.
NTV anchor Ken Mijungu, however, strongly defended Okari, who is his friend, against what he described as the painting of the latter by his ex-wife as an irresponsible father.
Taking to Facebook, Mercy shed more light on what really transpired during the period acknowledging that as much as Okari showed up at the hospital, he did little as compared to what Betty had done for her.
“Dennis, I could see your handwriting everywhere. The last time we met, you took over my night shift and offered to sleepover with the baby. We thought to ourselves as a family that – you are a stranger. You and Naomi were both strangers to us but it was your right as a father, a kind gesture and we respected that.
“But after that, you left, not a phone call or a message, yes you gave your contribution to our more than Ksh9 million bill but never turned back to know if and how we left the hospital. We were in the hospital for 4months, you came around for 4 weeks then disappeared,” explained Mercy.
She also disclosed that Okari had grown more absent in his daughter’s life and longer visited her.
“Dennis you had not seen your daughter’s face in years. You left us at the ward before she could even regain her cognitive abilities never to be seen & heard from again. If you would like to talk about it, do it on your platform. Respectfully,” she continued.
She also slammed Mijungu terming his message as disrespectful to her sister and explained that it was irresponsible for him to call the police over the matter.
“Ken, you cannot force a thank you, Maybe that is why the old Swahili saying “Tenda wema nenda zako (Do good and go your way)” You wrote her a disrespectful message asking her why she hasn’t thanked Dennis and you in her post, really? Looks like you are still seriously ‘keeping up’.
“Ken, the “Somali guy” took the baby to the hospital, made major decisions, while her mother was working. He was there daily, has continued to see her through her recovery in the absence of her biological father, I don’t know what you call father, that is a father to me,” she continued.
Betty, in her post, had also thanked the hospital’s doctors for diligently identifying the disease that eventually enabled Ivanna make steady progress.
