  • Kenya’s media darling Betty Kyallo has been named in the elite list of 100 Most Influential Young Africans 2020.

The bubbly media personality was beside herself when she got the remarkable news on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

“Really appreciate this. Here is to more nurturing and mentoring of young ones behind me in the African Continent. Oh I’m right next to Burna Boy,” she remarked on a light note at the very end, true to her infectious positive aura.

The yearly list is populated by leading public relations and rating firm, Avance Media in collaboration with Africa Youth Awards.

According to Avance Media, the list is drawn up each year to recognise young Africans for their outstanding contributions towards the development of Africa in a diverse range of fields.

The ex-K24 news anchor stunned her loyal fans on the night of May 30, when she announced that she was leaving the station after hosting her popular Weekend With Betty show.

“I really appreciate you all. It is now time for me to say goodbye here on K24 TV. Thank you so much for all the support, I appreciate you, God bless you and I love you,” she stated after her last show at K24.

She has since gone on to grow a cult-like following on her YouTube channel under the banner, Betty Kyallo Lately.

With over 136K followers, the renowned media personality has used her new platform to share intimate details of her life.

She also recently unveiled her brand new Flair By Betty salon that has been graced by the likes of Ida Odinga (Raila Odinga’s wife), popularly known as Mama Ida.

Notable guests in attendance during the launch of her high-end salon included radio presenter Jalang’o, who was the emcee, and media personality and former K24 colleague Shiksha Arora.

Her latest fete affirms the current trend of media personalities venturing into their own space and building a sustainable brand by leveraging on their popularity and religious following.

The 100 Most Influential Young Africans 2020 list included global superstars such as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, both footballers at Liverpool Football Club in the UK.

Nigeria recorded the highest representation with 21 young achievers, and Ghana, Kenya and South Africa also recorded a representation of 10 young people each.

The other Kenyan stars on the list are: Njugush, Boniface Mwangi, Edith Kimani, Ogutu Okudo, Victor Wanyama, Charlot Magayi, Dorcas Wangira and Umra Omar.
