The family issued an update on his health affirming that he had been transferred to KNH’s private wing. They also stated that the former coach had regained consciousness.
The outstanding balance for Avenue hospital stands at Ksh1.6 million after the family paid Ksh2 million. Further, the KNH bill stands at Ksh1.3 million.
The family urged Kenyans of goodwill to help raise the amount as they worry that the hospital bill will keep piling.
The news comes as President Uhuru Kenyatta had donated Ksh1 million to cater to Ayimba’s medical bill after Kenya Rugby Union issued a statement on his health.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja took to his Twitter page to thank Uhuru for the positive gesture. He also advocated for other politicians to chip in.
“Let’s keep at it. Thank you H.E Uhuru for the ksh1 M. Kindly Raila Odinga, William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi join in,” he urged.
Ayimba who is celebrated for his role in sports served as the country’s Rugby team captain in the Kenya Sevens and 15s team and was first appointed Shujaa head coach in 2006.
Three years later, he led the country to its first World Series Cup Final in Adelaide, Australia where the team lost to South Africa.
Ayimba made a comeback in 2015 and in 2016, Kenya recorded its first tournament win in the World Rugby Sevens Series after beating Fiji at the 2016 Singapore Sevens under his leadership.
He was appointed as a technical director of the Rugby League Federation in 2020. He was tasked with developing Kenya Rugby League technical status at all levels and formulation of a high-performance plan for players, coaches, referees, and officials.
