  • Azimio La Umoja has nominated Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi, as the leader of the majority in the National Assembly.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was proposed for the majority whip position and will be deputized by former Murang’a woman representative, Sabina Chege.

Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka announced the list on Saturday, September 17 at Azimio La Umoja parliamentary group in Athi River.

In the Senate where Azimio is less by one senator, the coalition settled for the minority seats.

Kilifi senator, Stewart Madzayo, was nominated as the leader of the minority. He will be deputised by Kitui senator, Enock Wambua.

Azimio settled on Isiolo County senator, Fatuma Dullo as the minority whip. Dullo will be deputised by Nairobi senator, Edwin Sifuna.

In the National Assembly, Azimio leadership has maintained that they are the majority despite losing some of its members to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.

Notably, Kenya Kwanza is expected to name its lineup today in Naivasha where President William Ruto is leading a similar PG meeting for his faction.

Just like Azimio, Ruto’s faction will name positions for the majority side in the NA as they claim that they are the majority side having clinched the speaker’s position.

“I have heard our competitors trying to say they have numbers, if they cannot even raise a candidate for the Senate Speaker position what numbers do they have? There is no need to bring a contest where there is none,” Ruto stated during the PG meeting on September 16.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga on September 16, reiterated that his coalition is ready to take up the role of the official opposition in parliament stating that the Azimio side is the largest coalition in the NA.

However, National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, will rule on which faction takes the majority and the minority side in the August House.
