During a meeting held at Mutua’s office in Machakos, his cabinet agreed to allocate 2 acres of land to the judiciary.
Speaking to kenyagist.com, the governor revealed that the decision was influenced by the rapid growth witnessed in Mavoko.
“We approved plans for the construction of a new court in Mavoko, and we may eventually need to set up a High Court in the area, he stated.
“We have also given land to the county assembly for the construction of the Speaker’s residence. We have also allocated several acres of land for different commissions and government agencies,” he added.
He reiterated that their decisions were spurred by the spirit of devolution and the need to bring vital services closer to the people.
Governor Mutua’s early Christmas gift for the judiciary came just a month after CJ Maraga lamented on stalled operations at the courts due to budgetary concerns.
Speaking to the Standard on November 4, 2019, the CJ stated that mobile courts would stall, vehicles serving judiciary officers would be parked, anti-corruption courts would be grounded and even their technology department will be paralyzed since they had no money to foot internet bills.
The latest move by the county of Machakos is a welcome gesture at a time when the judiciary is looking to reduce on their backlog of cases on a limited budget.
Mutua also revealed that he had received a report on effective management of sand within the county, efforts he linked to a culmination of studies on how to package sand as a way of value addition for maximum returns to the communities and also for sustainable environmental management.
