5 Senators Facing DCI Arrest – Murkomen

  • Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday, August 16, claimed five Senators were facing arrest by theDirectorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over their stand on the revenue sharing formula.

    According to Murkomen, the Senators are opposed to the contentious proposed formula for revenue allocation to the counties that has now been debated by the Senate a record eight times.

    In a statement, Murkomen claimed that Samburu Senator Steve Lelegwe was the first to be pursued by the DCI after opposing the formula.

    “DCI has been ordered to arrest and prefer false charges against at least 5 Senators opposed to the oppressive Revenue Formula.

    “They are currently going for Sennator Dr Steve Ltumbesi Lelegwe, Samburu County. Desperation is real. Arrest any of us and there will be no session tomorrow,” stated Murkomen. 

    Senate is set to convene on Monday, August 17, for the ninth time to debate and vote on the controversial third basis for sharing revenue among counties.

    The sitting was earlier on slated for Thursday, August 13, but Speaker Kenneth Lusaka announced it had been pushed forward due to technicalities.

    Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi claimed that Bomet Senator Christopher Langat was also being tracked by DCI.

    “DCI officials are reportedly not asleep. They have told Bomet and Samburu Senators, not to dare step in Senate on Monday,” stated Itumbi.

    Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Thursday, August 13, also claimed that some Senators woke up to find their bank accounts frozen.

    Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala on Friday visited the KRA office to seek clarity as to why his accounts were frozen and claimed that a group of lobbyists who were moving around trying to coerce and intimidate senators.

    According to reports, Meru Senator Mithika Linturi also had is accounts frozen under unclear circumstances.
