5 Police Officers Wounded in Early Morning Gunfight

  • Five police officers have been wounded following an exchange of fire with suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists along the Mandera-Somali border.

    In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, May 21, the  national police service revealed that a multi-agency team of security officers was in hot pursuit of suspected militants.

    “The ambush which took place at 6 a.m in Banisa during routine border patrol, has unfortunately left five of our police officers injured and they are currently receiving medical attention,” the police noted.

    The terrorists are reported to have sustained heavy casualties in the exchange.

    following the early morning attack, the National Police Service has secured the area

    “We wish to assure residents of our sustained vigilant presence even as the operation to apprehended and bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice,” the statement read in part.

    The incident comes after a day after several Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers were injured after a car they were travelling in hit an improvised road bomb.

    The officers’ vehicle hit the Improvised Explosive Device (IED).that is believed to have been planted by Al Shabaab.
