Residents claim that they were ordered to vacate the land without being given adequate notice, which is against Kenyan law.
This eviction follows ongoing disputes over the land between squatters who were allocated the land by the Agricultural Development Authority and the government.
There were claims that the police cordoned off the area during the eviction exercise.
Residents claimed that they have court orders that protect them from any eviction, and blamed the Trans Nzoia County County Commissioner for the eviction.
“The County Commissioner of Trans Nzoia has destroyed people’s settlements without issuing an eviction order from the court,†said one of the victims.
Elsewhere, over 500 families were evicted from Buxton Estate in Mombasa, on Saturday, March 6. This was attributed to the need to pave way for the construction of 1900 units in the Ksh6 billion housing project by the county government of Mombasa.
The families of the victims lost lots of property as bulldozers demolished their houses. They did their best to salvage some of their property with most of it getting destroyed.
Reports show that all families living in the affected estate were supposed to receive a relocation package of Ksh240,000 which most of them claimed not to have received the funds yet.
These victims called upon Governor Hassan Joho to look into the matter and have the issue resolved.
