2 More Die as Covid-19 Cases Reach 35,205

  • Kenya has recorded 102 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in the country to 35,205.

    Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, September 7, Health CAS Rashid Aman revealed that 2,668 samples had been tested over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests in the country to 477,145

    From today’s positive cases, 93 are Kenyans and 9 foreigners. In terms of gender, 51 are male and 51 females. The youngest was identified as a 1-Year-Old infant and the oldest 86 years.

    80 patients recovered from the virus and were discharged. 30 were released from the home-based care programme while the rest came from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 21,310.

    Sadly, 2 patients died from the virus bringing the total fatalities to 599.

    Some of the counties that have registered new cases are: Nairobi 41, Kitui 11, Kiambu 7, Mombasa 6, Busia 5, Turkana, Nyeri and Taita Taveta with 4 cases each, Meru, Murang’a, Kajiado, Machakos, Makueni, Bungoma and Kilifi 2 cases each, Embu, Laikipia, Garissa and Kisumu with 1 case each.

    The CAS urged Kenyans to remain cautiously optimistic despite the sudden drop in recorded cases.

    “We can definitely see a spike in cases if we do not observe the rules and regulations. Like we have seen in other countries as regulations are relaxed, some have seen had a second wave of the pandemic,” he stated.

    He also revealed that the death rate in Kenya from the Coronavirus currently stood at 1.7%

    Speaking during the press briefing,  Head of Public Health Dr. Francis Kuria announced that the government would review burial protocols to avoid further stigmatization of those who have lost loved ones.

    He went on to reveal that as at today the country had 664 patients in hospitals. Out of those, 25 are in ICU while 10 are on supplemental oxygen.
