  • Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a 15-year-old teenager suspected to be part of a group of armed robbers in the city.

On Wednesday, November 9 evening, the suspect engaged the detectives in a dangerous chase along the Southern Bypass and inside the Nairobi National Park.

He had initially hidden behind a bush before throwing caution to the wind and running inside the park oblivious of the danger posed by hyenas, leopards, and lions.

With help from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Rangers, the teenager was arrested after the 6-kilometer chase. DCI detectives watched as the rangers cornered the suspect inside the park.

Furthermore, the detectives were led to a spot near the Wilson Airport where a knife, that has been used to stab residents before taking off with their valuables, was hidden.

On further inquiry, the detective discovered the boy was positively identified as a suspect behind an armed robbery where a victim lost a phone (iPhone 13 ProMax) on November 2, along the Southern Bypass near South C.

The 15-year-old was from Kibera’s Lindi area. He was taken to the Akila Police Station awaiting arraignment in court.

“We thank the two KWS rangers, for their quick action leading to the arrest of the suspect,” DCI concluded.

DCI called upon the public to assist police officials with any information that will lead to the arrest of criminal gangs in the area and other parts of the county. They were urged to anonymously share intelligence with the sleuths.

Notably, residents in Nairobi and its environs have raised concerns about the resurgence of armed criminal gangs that are not afraid of killing to get valuables from the victims

On Sunday, November 6,  the family of a slain victim stated that two armed boda boda riders dared the police to go after them.

The thugs had stabbed the young man several times before fleeing with his phone and other valuables. Subsequently, the family was not happy with the slow pace of the police to arrest the suspects noting that the cops ought to have traced the phone and apprehend the attackers.
