143 Test Positive for Covid-19, With 1st Case Recorded in Kericho

Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman on Saturday, May 30, confirmed that 143 more individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours after 2,959 samples were tested within the same period. 

Speaking from Afya House during the daily briefings, Aman stated that the total number of Covid-19 individuals in the country stood at 1888.

All the 143 cases are Kenyans, with the youngest patient being one month and the oldest being 88 years old.

In terms of distribution per county, the CS  announced that; Nairobi had 86 cases, Mombasa (25) Uasin Gishu (11) Kiambu (6) Busia (3) Kwale (3) Migori (3) Kajiado (1)  Kisii(1) Garissa (1) Isiolo(1) Makueni (1) Kericho (1)

Kericho becomes the latest County to record a Covid-19 case, bringing the tally of counties affected so far to 33.

In terms of distribution in Nairobi County; Makadara had 45 cases, Kibra (21), Embakasi South (6) kasarani (5) Ruaraka (3) Westlands (2) Embakasi West (2) Lang’ata (1) and Starehe (1).

In Mombasa, on the other hand, the cases are distributed as follows: Likoni (11), Mvita (9), Nyali (2), Changamwe (1) and Jomvu (2).

Aman further stated that 26 individuals from hospitals around the county had been discharged, bringing the total number of those who had recovered to 464.

At the same time, the ministry recorded the loss of a 59-year-old, bringing the total number of those who had succumbed to 63.

The Health CAS further insisted that Kenyans should continue to follow measures that have been set by the government including; social distancing, wearing of marks, washing of hands regularly and reducing cases of large gatherings.

Aman urged Kenyan leaders to lead by example in following government directives to achieve the intended objective of combating the spread of the disease.

“It is disturbing to observe the casual manner in which some of us in leadership practice the containment measures. As leaders, it is of crucial importance that we walk the talk.

“It does not help if we continue to appeal to our people to wear masks in public places yet some of us do not do the same,” Aman stated.
