In a statement released on Monday, May 17, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that the cumulative numbers have risen to 165,537.
From the cases, 63 are Kenyans while 9 are foreigners. 45 are male and 27 are female. The youngest is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 84 years.
262 individuals recovered from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, 27 from various health facilities countrywide while 235 from home-based and isolation care.
Total recoveries now stand at 113,874 of which 82,777 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 31,097 are from various health facilities.
Unfortunately, 10 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, all on diverse dates within the last one month. Cumulative fatalities now stand at 3,013.
1,036 patients are admitted to various health facilities in the country while 4,729 are in home-based isolation and care. 108 are in the ICU – 23 of them being on ventilatory support and 70 on supplementary oxygen. 15 patients are on observation.
Another 84 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 79 in general wards and five in High Dependency Units (HDU).
The news comes as CS Kagwe had urged Kenyans to adhere to the guidelines stipulated by the Ministry of Health in order to ensure that the Covid-19 positivity curve drops.
He noted that tougher measures would be instituted by the government if the positivity rate increases. The CS had initially warned Kenyans of the third wave urging that majority of Kenyans would contract the virus if measures are not enforced.
Currently, the positivity rate has dropped below 10 percent.
