Mudavadi Poaches Echesa From DP Ruto's Camp

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, landed a vocal ally in his bid for the presidency in 2022 at the expense of Deputy President, William Ruto.

The former vice-president sent out a tweet to welcome Former Sports Cabinet Secretary, Rashid Echesa, to the fold after he openly announced his undying support for the ANC leader.

“The ANC party is for all Kenyans. Come let’s work together. Welcome on board brother Rashid Echesa,” Mudavadi tweeted.

Echesa had on Saturday made it public that he would fully back Mudavadi’s bid for the presidency, adding that it was time the former deputy Prime Minister took off his gentleman gloves.

“I am ready to use anything to ensure that a Luhya is president of this country but I want Musalia to be more aggressive. If it means being a gentleman, you have been enough. Now stamp your feet on the ground,” he asserted.

The former CS was addressing mourners during the burial of Jascah Afandi at Mung’ang’a village in Mumias East constituency.

Echesa had been a vocal supporter of DP Ruto and his bid to take over once President Uhuru’s term comes to an end in 2022 despite being fired from his cabinet position.

Back on March 17, 2019, he disclosed to the Daily Nation that his sacking was politically motivated.

“I was sacked because of my unflinching support for Deputy President William Ruto. I am a victim of the 2022 succession politics,” Echesa maintained during his past interview.

However, his latest move has been construed as a calculated move by the ANC leader to solidify his homefront, with Echesa vowing to stand by him till the end.

“I cannot be a supporter of another person. If anyone wants, he or she should come and sit with us so that we can form the next government together,” Echesa reiterated.
