Embattled businesswoman Phyllis Njeri Ngirita, was an emotional wreck outside the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, February 24.

In between sobs, Njeri told the press that her son could no longer converse in German, adding that he was slowly deteriorating into a chokoraa (street urchin).

She further claimed that all this stemmed from the fact that the boy could no longer attend Pembroke School due to an outstanding Ksh3.4 million debt.

“The young boy is no longer in school and slowly by slowly edging towards turning into a chokoraa. He can no longer speak German, he now only speaks Kiswahili, Kikuyu, and English,” she explained.

She went on to plead with President Uhuru Kenyatta to step in and help her family out, which she felt was made to bear the heaviest brunt of the NYS corruption scandal.

“I want the President to know that we are being persecuted. My family has been through a lot. Even if I am a suspect, we have been persecuted for two years. I used to work and all my money is stuck at NYS. I’d rather die or been thrown in jail than go through this,

“The individuals who made up the list of the NYS scandal suspects could fill an entire SGR train. Where are they now? My family has been sacrificed to cover all these individuals,” she lamented.

This is the second time Ngirita has broken down in court, citing her frustration at not being able to access her funds.

On January 23, she was in tears after the magistrate pushed forward a ruling on her application to be allowed to withdraw Ksh 800,000 from her frozen bank account.

She was seeking to access the money in order to offset her son’s school fees.

The entrepreneur owns Njewanga Enterprises in collaboration with her Mother Lucy Wambui and brother Jeremiah Gichini.

The three are faced with charges relating to an alleged corrupt deal worth Ksh468 million that belonged to the NYS back in 2015.
