  • Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, recalled how Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega, Philip Sulumeti, offered him a bottle of beer days before his wedding.

The seemingly comical Mudavadi re-counted that he had gone to visit the late Bishop at his chambers, together with his wife and late father-in-law, when the deacon offered him more than what he bargained for. Mudavadi had sought the clergy’s blessing.

“One thing that the Bishop did when we went to his chamber was that he offered me a beer.

“I looked at him and said ‘My God is the Bishop trying to trap me or something, I don’t understand this what do I do?'” Mudavadi recalled.

However, the Prime CS shied away and refused to take the beer.

“I later learnt that it was in good faith and what he was saying is that if indeed we are those who partake to it, take it in small doses and reasonable measure so that you don’t lose your senses.”

Mudavadi’s comic relief did set Kakamega congregants into laughter, provisionally turning the crowd into a jovial mood.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary celebrated further celebrated the Bishop Emeritus stating that they both have a common destiny to serve the people of Kenya.

“It is a common destiny to revive the economy, and we can only do it if we all work together,” he added.

At the ceremony, Narc-Kenya party leader, Martha Karua, urged the area governor, Fernandes Barasa, to work with the government but stay loyal to the opposition.

Karua insisted that she would ensure the government is kept in check.

Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega Philip Sulumeti celebrated his 50th year of service since he was first ordained in 1972.
