Brian Kibet Bera, a fifth-year University Engineering student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology(JKUAT)Ā came to the limelight on Tuesday after he tried to tresspass into the official residence of President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday 4pm.
On Tuesday, his father David Bera narrated to the media that his son was suffering from a medical disorder, which he blamed for his son’s actions.
āIn June last year, Brian was admitted to Reale Hospital in Eldoret town for two weeks. After diagnosis, it was established that he had a brief psychotic disorder,ā Bera told the Standard.
A copy of a medical document seen by the publication noted that the State House intruder displayed signs of disorganised behaviour/speech, violence, wandering and needed psycho-education/family therapy.
His father narrated that in 2018, Brian’s condition had improved and he had even requested to go back to school and complete his studies. He was however never taken for the medical review as required.
A report obtained by kenyagist.com from Kileleshwa Police Station indicated that the suspect trespassed into State House on Monday at 4pm by climbing over “Gate Bravo” and after getting challenged by the officers manning the area, he drew out his knife.
This prompted the officers to fire at him and he sustained a gunshot wound on the left shoulder plate.Ā
The 25-year-old JKUAT student is now recuperating at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
On Tuesday, State House stated thatĀ investigations were ongoing to establish the motive of the trespass and appropriate action would be taken upon conclusion.
